These homeowners had previously worked with ICON Interiors, so we were excited when they wanted to partner with both ICON Interiors and ICON Custom Builders to refresh their primary bedroom and bathroom. Through our thoughtful design process, we collaborated to make these spaces feel more aligned with their personal style.
While new decor and design selections improved the primary bedroom, the bulk of the renovation occurred in the bathroom. While the layout, plumbing, and storage closet location didn’t change – our team completely gutted the bathroom. Then came the fun part – diving into the design! Designers Katherine and Melissa worked together to design a new light and airy primary bathroom.
“We have worked with Paige many times,” Katherine shared. “We know that she gravitates towards soft blues, and we wanted this bathroom to feel fresh and serene.”
Several details made this modern bathroom renovation a success. Cottage white cabinets accented with gold hardware brighten up the room that was initially much darker. The natural stone quartzite countertop grounds the space, bringing out shades of blue, gray, and cream, and beautifully contrasting the lighter cabinets. Custom millwork around the vanity mirrors, as well as the fun accent light fixture in the middle of the room, make the space feel elevated and finished.
The rectangular sink aligns with the homeowners’ contemporary aesthetic and helps to modernize their more traditional-style home. Even basic plumbing fixtures received an upgrade. “It was our first time getting to use this new Brizo faucet style in a bathroom space, and we absolutely love it,” Katherine shared.
The storage tower next to the vanity creates more accessible storage for bathroom essentials. There’s a pull-out drawer for makeup and even a drawer designed for hot tools with a built-in outlet. This improved functionality allows for clear surfaces at all times – no messy, tangled cords creating clutter on the countertop.
One design decision in particular instantly made the bathroom feel larger. We turned the built-in tub into a modern freestanding tub. The ledge along the back wall serves a dual purpose – it improves function by providing usable storage space, and it enhances the beauty of the room by matching the vanity countertops and making the redesigned space feel cohesive.
On the lower portion of the wall, Hector added custom millwork to make the ledge feel more intentional. The upper half features a fun blue geometric grasscloth wallpaper. While the material is traditional, the pattern feels young and contemporary, which perfectly blends the styles of the home and the homeowners.
“To soften the space and connect it to the bedroom we designed, we added a roman shade in a Schumacher fabric” Katherine shared. “We had it custom made with a pretty blush trim detail, and it works beautifully with the wallpaper.”
The highlight, however, is a digitally-controlled steam shower unit that ICON designed in collaboration with the homeowners. It features both a stationary shower head and a steam shower head, body spray capability on both sides, as well as a linear niche to store shower products.
We filled in the existing transom window and implemented oversized wall tiles that continue up to the ceiling. This created a fully sealed unit, allowing the entire area to be considered a “wet space,” which is required for a steam shower installation.
From the spa-like steam shower to the storage solutions to the soothing color palette, this outdated and dark primary bathroom transformed into a modern and serene sanctuary.

After working with ICON over the past year and a half, we have completed a full remodel of our primary bathroom and various updates to our kitchen, dining room, and primary bedroom. From start to finish, the entire team was professional, organized, and genuinely invested in creating inviting and beautiful spaces.
The design team did an incredible job helping us balance style and function – every detail feels thoughtful and cohesive. The craftsmanship is top-notch. Communication was always clear and very responsive, which made the process smooth and stress-free. Even when hiccups were encountered, ICON was very quick to call in the right resources to make things right. We’re thrilled with how things turned out and love spending time in our updated spaces. We couldn't recommend ICON more and we look forward to working with them again sometime in the future!
