This project has it all – from bathroom remodeling to kitchen remodeling to an addition. With the homeowners’ overall goals of embracing nature, enlarging spaces, optimizing for entertaining, and maximizing accessibility, our design-build team began the full home transformation.
The home is situated on an oversized lot, so we built a 3-story addition off the back of the house to capture the beautiful forested backdrop. The vaulted ceiling and full wall of windows further enhance the surroundings. This home addition created an extra bedroom, bathroom, laundry room, office, living room, large entertaining deck, and an elevator to easily access all levels.
The existing home had mismatched hardwoods, so we installed new hardwood floors to ensure consistency. We captured the colors of nature through the wall paint by incorporating shades of green and blue. The homeowners do not like recessed lighting, so we opted for semi-flush pendants and light fixtures throughout.
In the expanded kitchen, the galley-style layout allows plenty of space for multiple people to cook simultaneously. Knotty alder cabinetry in dark pecan with a distressed vandyke glaze pairs beautifully with a custom rookwood green paint color. The barn doors leading into the dining room boast an etched tree branch design, a detail that brings the outdoors in.
The full bar is every entertainer’s dream. The restaurant-style barback boasts a leathered black sea pearl granite with a chiseled edge and a vertically-stacked portofino green subway tile backsplash. This large gathering space is such a focal point of the home that the homeowners and designers refer to it as “Grand Central Station.”
We reimagined each and every space within the home, blending beauty and function. Ultimately, we created a cohesive design that accentuates the home’s natural surroundings, and implemented a functional layout that is perfect for hosting friends and family. With the ability to escape into their own retreat, these homeowners are now settling into retirement in a home that they love.
We are delighted that this project was featured in the Junior League of Winston-Salem’s 19th annual Tour of Fine Spaces held on April 12, 2025. This yearly celebration highlights unique designs and skilled builders, craftsmen, and designers – we were honored to be included along with our trusted trade partners.
Thank you to Dixon Custom Cabinetry, Heritage Hardwood Floors, Johnson Granite, Solid State Tile, and Worth Painting for partnering with us to create a beautiful transformation on Ryan Way.
