Prior to this renovation, the homeowners had a smaller U-shaped kitchen and a separate dining room. At the top of their wishlist was the desire to open up the space, improve the flow and maximize it for entertaining.
We began the transformation by tearing down the wall between the kitchen and dining room, which doubled the square footage of the entire kitchen. We added a large island in the center to provide ample counter space for cooking and serving.
Since the couple loves to entertain, we wanted the new space to feel like a true entertainer’s kitchen. We incorporated bar seating around the island, banquette seating for gathering and playing games, a multi-use buffet and bar, and a tall wine fridge.
Perhaps the most unique feature of this kitchen remodel is the chandelier with a fan inside of it – a “fandelier” – illuminating the transformed dining area.
To blend the couple’s two style preferences, our design plan ultimately created a modern farmhouse kitchen. We incorporated rustic elements and natural tones in the island and wooden beams that we refinished to match the natural wood. We also refinished the hardwood floors to remove the aged ambering effect, adding a warm brown tone. We then installed a sliding barn door to hide the pantry space.
For a modern twist, we opted for sleek black honed negresco countertops and backsplash behind the hood. We paired this with vertical tongue-and-groove paneled backsplash as an alternative to traditional tile. Lastly, we selected black light fixtures and hardware throughout.
Ultimately, we were delighted to partner with these homeowners to remodel their 1990s home and modernize their primary bathroom and kitchen in Allerton Lake. We invite you to check out some of our other bathroom remodeling, kitchen remodeling, and home remodeling projects!
