We were thrilled to help this client renovate her childhood home! The kitchen space was full of memories, but required several updates to function better for her current lifestyle.Â
A few key changes were instrumental in achieving the homeowner’s wishlist. To start, we combined the existing kitchen and dining room to make the new kitchen larger. We also increased the opening from the kitchen into the front room to improve the flow throughout these main areas. By closing in an unused exterior door, we created custom banquette seating and a beautiful cabinet display area for her colorful glass pieces.Â
Additionally, we added new hardwood floors to the kitchen and hallway and refinished the existing hardwood to match. We created a peninsula to provide bar seating, perfect for every day or for entertaining. In addition to the natural light, the space received a big upgrade when we incorporated recessed lighting, sconces and pendants.Â
Lastly, we relocated the washer and dryer to a stacked unit in the kitchen closet. To ensure it looked cohesive, those cabinetry panels blend with the kitchen cabinets. It is aesthetically pleasing, yet functional.Â
This kitchen renovation not only preserved the client’s childhood memories in her home, but ensured that her new space would work better for her needs. Ample seating and storage combined with beautiful details are sure to bring joy for many years to come.Â

We wanted to do a major kitchen renovation on my childhood home which was built in 1962. The first contractor we asked to give an estimate told us they only did new builds. When I contacted ICON about taking on our project, Chuck was not deterred at all. He said they love to do remodels on older homes to reinvent spaces and prolong the life of the home. He mentioned that he had a remodel on a home tour the next weekend that we could go check out. We went and toured a few homes in the tour including ICON’s home and we were sold. Comparing the workmanship of the tour homes we were most impressed with ICON’s workmanship and attention to detail. We were assigned a designer, Melissa Hayes, and a project manager Doug Brown. They were both very attentive to our wishes and very responsive when we had questions or issues along the way. We are extremely pleased with the finished project which combined a small dining room with a small kitchen into a beautiful, huge dream kitchen. We highly recommend ICON!
