These homeowners loved their neighborhood and neighbors, and decided to renovate instead of moving. After living in their home for over a decade, they craved some updates to elevate their day to day lives at home. They also desired more space for entertaining their friends and family. The end result is a dramatic transformation.Â
This project entailed a multi-space, multi-level home renovation, as well as an addition. To begin, we removed the back side of the house and dug out the lower level. The addition to the back of the house allowed for a larger kitchen, living area, covered porch, open deck, and lower level entertaining space, as well as a covered carport.Â
The kitchen received a refresh – complete with a larger footprint, an island with ample seating and storage, and paneled appliances for a cohesive look. We installed matching cabinets in the living area as a continuation of the kitchen. Together with the covered porch, these areas function as one large gathering and entertaining space. The theme of this project is ‘open concept.’ Â
We created a 20×25 covered porch and adjacent 20×20 open deck – both waterproofed in order to create a parking area underneath. We installed the same wood flooring on the porch as the main level, and implemented 20 ft. bifold glass doors as a way to tie the inside and outside together. Retractable screens allow the porch to be enjoyed year-round, while the wood burning fireplace’s southwestern feel is a tribute to a region the homeowners love so much.
On the lower level, we created an additional entertaining space that features a kitchenette, fireplace, foosball table, and pool table, as well as cozy furniture. This quickly became a hangout spot for their son’s friends throughout high school and college. Right outside this entertainment zone, the covered parking area allows space for 4 vehicles to protect against rain and snow.Â
Years after the initial renovation, our team added a home office adjacent to the open deck. While it’s detached from the main house, it’s tied in under the same roof. With custom cabinets to stay organized, open shelves to display décor, colorful details throughout, and lots of natural light, it’s a beautiful space to spend the work day.
This huge transformation would not have been possible without the efforts of Craig Disher, Quin Pillsworth, Susan Bradford, Barry Wilson, and the entire ICON Custom Builders team. Thank you to everyone who collaborated on this design and made the project a huge success!
